Becoming American tells the story of the author's growing up in post-war Europe in a family of Holocaust survivors, immigrating to the United States and becoming a citizen in his teens, and becoming deeply engaged in American law, politics, and academia. In the process, he became associated with some of the leading public figures and issues of our time.
