Exclusive Interview with
Paula Price
When did you start writing?
In some ways, I have been writing since childhood. I wrote poetry and short stories throughout my school years. When I moved to Los Angeles, I wrote screenplays and produced 2 of them, one a short, the other a children's animated series. As far as books go, The Quest for Happiness is my first published book.
What makes writing your passion?
Writing is my passion because it is a great way to express myself. Even if just journaling or blogging, I can get out a message that I feel is important either just for myself or sometimes the world. (or whomever actually reads it)
How long have you been writing?
What was the feeling when you published your first book?
It felt amazing to accomplish publishing my first book. I had a few others over the years that never saw fruition but this one sort of just wrote itself and I felt it was a much needed subject at this point in time given the state of the world.
What’s the story behind your choice of characters?
Since I write non fiction I dont really have characters but the reason I chose to write what I do is because while I journey and discover things I want to share them with others. My current book, The Quest for Happiness, I feel fills a much needed subject matter right now in the world.
What annoys you the most in pursuing a writing career?
I wouldn't say there is much that annoys me in writing. As in most self employed businesses it can be challenging to make a living sometimes, but the learning curve when I started was both challenging and rewarding.
How do you get over the “writer’s block”?
My theory is just start writing and the words will flow. Sometimes I really have no idea what to write but I just start anyway. I may have to delete most of it later, but once I start I eventually get on track again.
We all know the writer’s path is never easy, what makes you keep going? What advice would you give to new authors?
The advice I would give new authors is just write it! I can't tell you how many people have told me they want to write a book and I say do it! The author community is also very giving and I have found that any questions I have along the way someone is always willing to answer it with a smile. I think that's what makes it easy to keep going because I can see how other s accomplished so much and they are always willing to share how they did it.
If you could go back in time and talk to your younger self, what would you say?
If I could go back in time, I would tell myself don't stress or worry becuase everything always works itself out and trust the process.
Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with the bad ones?
I do read book reviews and I actually don't mind bad ones because they usually help me define my audience. The people who give negative reviews weren't the people I wrote the book for.
What is the feeling when you get a good review?
When I get a good review, it makes me smile because I know that was someone who needed to read the book. I love helping people and sharing all I've learned with others who need it.
Have you ever incorporated something that happened to you in real life into your novels?
Which of your characters you can compare yourself with? Did you base that character on you?
What do you think, the book cover is as important as the story?
The book cover is what makes most people decide to purchase the book. How it makes them feel will usually determine a purchase or not, so yes, it is very important that it tells it's own story.
Do you connect with your readers? Do you mind having a chat with them or you prefer to express yourself through your writing?
I plan on doing workshops in 2025 with the subject matter in my latest books and I love talking with others on the subjects. I always love to hear from my readers and they can do so through my website www.anchorheartbooks.com
How do you feel when people appreciate your work or recognize you in public?
Who is your favorite author? Why?
I can't really answer that because I have so many favorite authors. I am more of a non fiction reader so you can find me constantly reading some sort of self help/spiritual genre book.
What’s the dream? Whom would you like to be as big as?
Would you rewrite any of your books? Why?
If you could switch places with any author – who would that be?
What would you say to the “trolls” on the internet? We all know them – people who like to write awful reviews to books they’ve never read or didn’t like that much, just to annoy the author.
What would you say to your readers?
Take what resonates with you from my books and leave what doesn't. I love that readers take the time to read my books and hope they help better their life even if just a bit. My goal is to help people reach their true potential and live in love and light.
Share a bit about yourself – where do you live, are you married, do you have kids?
I currently reside in Los Angeles, CA with my two adult children, dog and husband.
What is your day job if you have one?
I am also a voice over actress and happiness coach.
What are your hobbies? What do you do in your free time?
I love to travel, cook, and spend time with friends. Like a true Sagitarius I am constantly looking for my next trip. I also love to make up new recipes and try new foods. Living in Southern California, I enjoy the weather and going to the beach (although I don't take advantage of that enough)
Did you have a happy childhood?
Is there a particular experience that made you start writing?
Do you have unpublished books? What are they about?
What do you think should be improved in the education of our children? What do we lack?
This is a huge topic for me and I mention it in my latest book. Children are not taught life skills like how to destress or get along with others. There is simply too much propaganda and agenda being taught instead of how to become a loving, grateful human who can self regulate themselves.
If you were allowed 3 wishes – what would they be?
world peace, more people to wake up and discover who they really are as humans, and to enjoy my family and friends daily.
